DATEV and the beta

From receipt to booking — in seconds.

Claude extracts, classifies and proposes the booking entry. You review and confirm. The DATEV export as an EXTF file is part of the beta on every plan — without a DATEV contract and without connecting to DATEV; any member triggers it in the chat and exports only the documents they have access to. The direct connection (OAuth) is planned for Q1 2027 and cannot be used yet; DATEV grants the release for production.

01

Upload receipt

PDF, image or email attachment via drag & drop — or straight from the chat.

02

Claude extracts

Amount, VAT rate, supplier and date — no template, no manual mapping. From text-layer PDFs or a photo of the receipt (PNG/JPG).

03

Prepare the posting line

The AI prepares the account and contra account as a draft. You review and correct — the tax advisor decides the posting.

04

On to your accounting system

You export the reviewed booking entry as an EXTF file for your firm or transfer it to your accounting system. The direct connection is planned for Q1 2027.

The DATEV export in practice

Sample receipt in, posting batch out.

An example with fictional data: Claude reads the incoming invoice, prepares the posting line and creates an EXTF file from it. Preview with a sample receipt; the DATEV export as an EXTF file is part of the beta.

The firm imports the EXTF file into DATEV Kanzlei-Rechnungswesen. An example of the file route, no DATEV contract; accounts are a proposal you review. What is enabled in the chat today is on the DATEV export page.

TODAY · WITHOUT A DATEV CONNECTION

What you can do today without a DATEV connection

All inside the private chat, no DATEV contract and no sign-in with DATEV:

  • Upload a receipt (PDF or photo): Claude reads issuer, date, line items and amounts.
  • GoBD receipt check: review mandatory details under § 14 UStG and flag anomalies such as a 0% tax rate without a reason.
  • Draft a letter to the client, for example to request missing details.
  • Create a checklist of documents for a tax return.
  • Export reviewed posting records as an EXTF file; your firm imports it into DATEV Kanzlei-Rechnungswesen.

Everything is a working draft: the tax advisor makes the decision.

LATER · PLANNED FOR Q1 2027

How the direct connection is meant to work

The chat will then talk directly to your DATEV account. Planned flow:

  1. Order the data service once in MyDATEV.
  2. An admin explicitly enables the direct connection per client.
  3. You sign in with your own DATEV account.
  4. In the chat you ask about clients, postings or receipts; reading is always possible, writing only when you trigger it.

Planned example · not available today

You: Show me the postings of client 10001 for October.

Claude: I am retrieving them through your DATEV account. Shall I send the reviewed posting batch straight to DATEV?

You: Yes, send.

DATEV grants the production release; the date is a plan, not a commitment.

How does the DATEV integration work?

The DATEV export as an EXTF file is part of the beta on every plan — without a DATEV contract and without connecting to DATEV; any member triggers it in the chat and exports only the documents they have access to. The direct connection (OAuth) is planned for Q1 2027 and cannot be used yet; DATEV grants the release for production. Receipts are extracted, classified and proposed as a booking entry; you review it. ClapNClaw stores your data on servers in Germany; AI inference runs in the EU.

What does ClapNClaw cost for tax firms?

Compliance plan (€59/month, €50 with annual billing) bookable online, no trial, incl. the § 203 StGB supplementary agreement. For larger firms wanting a fully dedicated server: the Dedicated plan starts at €149 per user per month (€125 with annual billing), every additional user €99/month (€84 annually). Team: 7 days free, no credit card. Compliance and Dedicated are bookable online, no trial, incl. the § 203 StGB supplementary agreement.

Where is the data processed?

Within the EU: client data at Hetzner in Germany, AI inference runs on AWS Bedrock in Frankfurt (eu-central-1); a residual US CLOUD Act risk is disclosed transparently. Anthropic stores no data via Bedrock.

Is there a ChatGPT alternative for tax advisors?
